The Redmond Planning Commission is reviewing Middle Housing regulations and associated zoning consolidation. Staff have drafted amendments to create a new Neighborhood Residential zoning district to meet state requirements related to middle housing. The staff recommendation consolidates land use designations and associated zoning districts to help meet Redmond 2050 goals, implement the 2021 Redmond Housing Action Plan, and fulfill state requirements. See staff memo here.

The zoning code and zoning map updates being prepared that focus on the consolidation of zoning districts by going from 50 to 20 zones. Almost every neighborhood and zoning district will have some type of change in what can be built, the look and feel, building heights, or uses.

Two additional potential amendments are also being considered, including:

  • Amending language related to “Total Square Footage for All Structures Within the Lot”
  • Changes to the existing definition for “Dwelling Units” to explicitly include middle housing typologies as dwelling units.

Planning Commission materials for the middle housing regulations are available for review. Learn more about the associated zoning consolidation.
