Due to many factors, including the impacts of COVID-19, the effective date of Seattle's building codes has been delayed until November 1, 2020. If the 2018 Washington State construction codes’ effective date is delayed past November 1, the city of Seattle will align the effective date of its codes with the state.

The intended commencement date for new code changes had previously been July 1, 2020. The affected codes include: the 2018 Seattle Building Code, Residential Code, Mechanical Code, Fuel Gas Code, Existing Building Code, Energy Code, Plumbing Code, and Electrical Code (2020 National Electrical Code with Seattle amendments).

Visit Seattle's code adoption webpage for more information or contact Seattle Government Affairs Manager Aliesha Ruiz, 425.460.8204.
