Kirkland Approves Code Changes to Increase Housing Supply and Affordability

The Kirkland City Council has approved a set of ordinances that changes the city’s zoning code to encourage the development of more affordable housing and choice, including the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs), cottages, duplexes, and triplexes in all single-family residential zones.

The code changes allow additional housing supply by reducing parking requirements, eliminating ADU owner occupancy requirements, allowing two ADUs per property, allowing duplexes with ADUs, giving design flexibility, and making permit review and approval processes more streamlined.
