The Auburn City Council has approved its Housing Action Plan (Plan) by resolution. The Plan, if implemented as designed, will help the city address its future housing needs by accommodating growth with a diversity of housing options and affordability.

The preliminary policy recommendations to achieve this include:

  • Foster retention and maintenance of the existing housing stock.

  • Work to increase the housing supply at various needed income levels.

  • Support development of a variety of housing types (e.g., duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and other multi-family developments).

  • Reduce barriers to small lot development.

  • Promote accessory dwelling units (e.g., backyard cottages, tiny houses).

  • Encourage tax incentives or other incentives for building affordable housing.

  • Promote lot aggregation in downtown.

  • Reduce parking requirements in R-5 and R-7.
