Seattle Releases Draft ADU Legislation

The Seattle City Council has released its draft accessory dwelling unit (ADU) legislation, which closely resembles the preferred alternative in the ADU EIS that was completed last fall.

Your association submitted a letter in April, urging the council to approve proposed changes that would make it easier to build more ADUs in single-family zones across the city. Studies show that ADUs are a cost-effective way to increase housing supply. Allowing more ADUs was one of the HALA recommendations nearly four years ago (July 2015), yet because of legal challenges, the council has not been able to act.
