This week the Edmonds City Council adopted an updated Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) code. The measure implements requirements enacted by the Washington State Legislature through House Bill 1337. The measure passed on a 4 - 2 vote. Key provisions include allowing both an attached and detached unit, 50% impact fees, no parking requirements, maximum height of 24 feet and generally no requirements that would be more restrictive than the principal unit. Edmonds is one of the first jurisdictions in the state to adopt the new standards - well ahead of the mid-2025 deadline.
